Farm bill stalls in Senate
August 07, 2026 / By ICBA
The Senate Agriculture Committee failed to advance its version of the farm bill during a markup.
Markup Debate: The Agricultural Act of 2026 stalled amid disagreements over the nutrition section of the five-year bill. The committee recessed following a 10-11 vote against advancing the measure.
ICBA View: In a national news release, ICBA President and CEO Rebeca Romero Rainey said eventual passage of the farm bill is achievable while warning that further modifications are needed to include guardrails on the Farm Credit System.
Key Issue: ICBA this week reiterated the importance of sound farm policy in a letter to committee members while emphasizing the need for sufficient FCS guardrails and transparency.
