House members release CFPB-reform bill

Members of the House Financial Services Committee introduced legislation to reform the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
Sponsors: Committee Chairman French Hill (R-Ark.), Financial Institutions Subcommittee Chairman Andy Barr (R-Ky.), and nearly all committee Republicans unveiled the Consumer Financial Protection Accountability and Reform Act of 2026.
Details: The bill would bring the CFPB into the congressional appropriations process, clarify the bureau’s authority, establish a dedicated inspector general, and require periodic reviews of major rules.
