ICBA tells Fed to maintain check services; comments due today
March 09, 2026 / By ICBA
ICBA said the Federal Reserve should maintain check services at their current level and provide transparency on any fee adjustments.
Details: In a letter responding to the Fed's request for information on the future of its check services, ICBA said:
The Reserve Banks' check services are essential to community banks.
Reducing or eliminating check services would disproportionately affect the communities served by community banks.
At a minimum, check services should be maintained at their current level of reliability and scope.
Additional investment presents an opportunity worth exploring, but community banks need to understand the cost implications.
Push for Input: ICBA also continues urging community bankers to submit comment letters on the future of the Reserve Banks’ check collection and processing services ahead of today’s deadline. ICBA’s Be Heard grassroots action center features a step-by-step guide for community bankers to communicate the importance of the check services. Submit comments today.
