House Republicans elected Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.) as the 56th speaker of the House of Representatives.
House Republicans elected Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.) as the 56th speaker of the House of Representatives.
Bio: Johnson, who won every House Republican vote, is a member of the House Judiciary and Armed Services committees and chairman of the Judiciary panel’s Subcommittee on Constitution and Limited Government.
Statement: Following the vote, Johnson said that as speaker he will act to restore trust, advance legislative priorities, and demonstrate good governance.
Outlook: ICBA looks forward to continuing to work with Speaker Johnson and other members of the House on pressing community banking issues pending in Congress.
