Washington, D.C. (Feb. 12, 2025)—Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) President and CEO Rebeca Romero Rainey issued the following statement on President Donald Trump’s nomination of Jonathan McKernan to serve as director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
“ICBA and the nation's community bankers congratulate Jonathan McKernan on his nomination to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. As a former FDIC director, McKernan understands the important role of community banks and the need for tiered regulations at the bureau that will preserve access to banking services in local communities.
“As part of our ‘Repair, Reform, and Thrive’ plan for the new Congress and administration and our recent open letter to the 119th Congress, ICBA is advocating a variety of reforms to CFPB regulations.
“We look forward to working closely with McKernan, the Trump administration, and the 119th Congress to implement needed CFPB regulatory reforms to help community banks meet the needs of local communities.”
